The nervous system is divided into? the central nervous system(CNS) and the peripheral nervous system(PNS)
what structure protects the brain and spinal cord? the brain and spinal cord are protected by bony structures, membranes and fluids
where is the brain held? it is held in the cranial cavity of the skull
what parts make up the brain? the brain consists of the cerebrum, cerebellum and the brain stem
what are the functions of the nervous system? sensory input, integration of data and motor output
what is sensory input? this is where the body gets information from neurons, glia and synapses
what is the nervous system composed of? it is composed of nerve cells and synapses
how does stimuli get from to the brain? through nerves from sensory receptors to the brain
what is the CNS comprised of? it includes the brain and the spinal cord
Name two nerves are found in the CNS? the cranial nerves and spinal nerves
what is the peripheral nervous system? the peripheral nervous system makes up all other parts that are not the brain or the spinal cord
what are the functions of the peripheral nervous system? it serves as a communication lines between the brain, spinal cord, glands and muscles
what is the peripheral nervous system? it can be subdivided into somatic and autonomic system
what are the twelve cranial nerves? Olfactory Nerve, Optioc nerve, Oculomotor, Trochlear, Trigeminal, Abducens, Facial, Vestibulocochlear, Glossopharengeal, vagus, spinal accessory, spinal accessory, Hypoglossal
Whats the function of the olfactory nerve? for smell
Whats the function of the optic nerve? for vision
Whats the function of the Oculomotor nerve? for looking around
Whats the function of the Trochlear nerve? for moving eye
Whats the function of the Abducens nerve? for the movement of eye muscles
Whats the function of the Facial nerve? it is used for smiling, winking
Whats the function of the Vestibulocachlear nerve? it helps with hearing, balance and equilibruim
Whats the function of the Glossopharengeal nerve? it helps in swallowing and gagging
Whats the function of the vagus nerve? used for swallowing, talking, parasympathetic actions of digestion
Whats the function of the spinal accessory nerve? helps shrugging the shoulders
Whats the function of the Hypoglossal nerve? found in tongue
Where do majority of the cranial nerves originate from? 10 out of the 12 cranial nerves orininate from the brain stem
Spinal nerves originate from? the spinal cord
