The Solar Energy Tax Credit is a federal tax credit for individuals and businesses that purchase and install solar energy systems. The credit, which was established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, applies to both photovoltaic (PV) and solar-thermal systems.
The credit is available for both residential and commercial properties, and there is no limit on the number of systems that can be installed. The credit can be applied to either new or existing structures.
In order to qualify for the credit, the solar energy system must be used for generating electricity, heating water, or for space heating or cooling. The system must also be installed on property that is owned by the taxpayer.
The credit can be used to offset both federal and state taxes. The credit is equal to 30% of the cost of the solar energy system, including installation and labor costs. The credit is available for systems installed through 2021.
In order to receive the credit, taxpayers must file Form 5695 with their federal tax return. Documentation of the purchase and installation of the solar energy system must be included with the form.
The Solar Energy Tax Credit is a great way to encourage the use of renewable energy. The credit can help offset the cost of a solar energy system, making it more affordable for taxpayers. The credit is available for systems installed through 2021.
